Luna Park is the first of three semi-staged, rehearsed readings in the From Page to Stage 2016 season. It is a book-in-hand presentation of the full show.
Luna Park chronicles the partnership of Skip Dundy and Fred Thompson, the true fathers of the modern themed amusement park. A full generation before Walt Disney, they created at Coney Island an attraction called Luna Park, a place designed to allow everyone to forget the pressures of modern industrial society and remember how to play.
Directed by Benji Sperring (The Toxic Avenger, Southwark Playhouse; Shock Treatment, King’s Head) with musical direction by Nick Barstow (The Burnt Part Boys, Park Theatre; I'm Getting My Act Together And Taking It On The Road, Jermyn Street; Closer Than Ever, Pheasantry).
Cast includes Geri Allen as Mabel Taliafero (The Wicker Husband, Unicorn Theatre), Georgie Ashford as Luna Dundy (Showboat, New London Theatre; Barnum, UK Tour), Craig Berry as George C. Tilyou/Balladeer (Closer to Heaven, Union Theatre; Miracle on 34th Street, UK Tour), Ian Gareth-Jones as Elmer 'Skip' Dundy (Mrs Henderson Presents, Noel Coward Theatre; Oliver!, Leicester Curve), James Gulliford as Joseph Meisinger (Labyrinth, Hampstead Theatre; The Stripper, St. James Theatre), Michael Hamway as Frederick Thompson (Jackie the Musical, UK Tour), Lizzii Hills as Moon Godess/Rose/Old Rose (The Toxic Avenger, Southwark Playhouse; The Wizard of Oz, West End) and Chris Vincent as Reginald Stephens/Janitor (The Beatles: Love, Las Vegas; Oliver!, Sheffield Crucible).
